Situated at an altitude of 1000 m on the slop of Mt. Tymfi, Papigo is a magical destination. This historic village was considered an established settlement already in 1352 A.D, and is mentioned in a document issued by Symeon, the Despot (governor) of Epirus.
Papigo is one of the Communities already flourishing in the 14th and 15th centuries and also during the second half of the 19th century.
Today, Papigo does not number more than 100 permanent residents from that few Sarakatsanian cattle-breeders that drive their flock from its winter quarters in Thesprotia to the mountainous pastures of Tymfi. It is only in recent years, when the development of tourism generates new job opportunities, that there is an apparent trend of active population to stay or return home.
